TRUEDEM Political trust database
This dataset was developed as part of the Trust in European Democracies project and it includes 91 different measures of trust that have been used in academic comparative studies in European countries between 1980 and 2023, both in their original form as well as in harmonized versions.
The dataset is accompanied by the corresponding codebook, which offers the readers / users of the dataset all the relevant information to be able to select the variables to be further analyzed. The first version of the dataset was released in January 2024. According to the information on the project's website, the dataset will be yearly updated.
In terms of coverage, the dataset includes data for 44 European countries for a period of 1980-2023. Te dataset includes 91 variables measuring interpersonal trust, institutional trust, and trust in other nations. Survey data included into the database originates from: Eurobarometer (EB), European Social Survey (ESS), European Values Study (EVS), World Values Survey (WVS), International Social Survey Program (ISSP), New Democracies Barometer (NDB) / New Europe Barometer (NEB), Central and Eastern European Barometer (CEEB), Applicant and Candidate Countries Eurobarometer (CCEB).

This dataset was developed as part of the Trust in European Democracies project, representing a
comprehensive research effort aimed at analysing patterns and trends of the electoral behaviour in
the European countries and their role in addressing new challenges for inclusiveness and representativity in democratic systems in Europe.
The database includes data from the 27 European Union member countries, in addition it also features data from non-EU member states: Norway, Switzerland, Ukraine, and the United Kingdom. The database presents data at the country-level parliamentary elections (European Parliament and lower house of the National Parliament, first round). In addition to presenting data on electoral participation and vote distribution among political parties, the database includes a number of variables of great relevance to research on the relationship between voter turnout, political trust and democracy in Europe.

The dataset is accompanied by the corresponding codebook, which offers the readers / users of the dataset all the relevant information to be able to select the variables to be further analyzed. The first version of the dataset was released in April 2024.
The database includes data from the 27 European Union member countries, in addition it also features data from non-EU member states: Norway, Switzerland, and the United Kingdom. The database presents data for all political parties in the 30 countries included, from 1990 to 2022. The indicators in the dataset are coming from multiple sources, including V-Dem V-Party, the Global Party Survey, and the Manifesto Project.
